This fall will be my 5th semester at the University of Connecticut. I spent the first year of college at Western Connecticut State University but came to the realization, after the first weekend, that I did not want to stay there. There was no action there. UConn is a much more active campus. I got into Journalism for the investigative aspect of the profession. I like to unfold the truth as it ought to be. I know very little about computers so I hope this class can help me out.
As far as websites I go to get my news, I suppose courant.com is my first preference. I prefer the Hartford Courant over The New York Times website because of the local news it covers. Also, the Hartford Courant holds the reputation as a respected investigative news-reporting organization and that is something I aim for in my career as a reporter. Last year, two Hartford Courant reporters visited my class and shared with us a story they exposed about the poor screening process done by the military for the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. They also brought to light the maltreatment of soldiers when they came back. I want to write those type of stories.

Hello. It is really cool that you are interested in investigative journalism, that is also what most appeals to me in journalism.
On June I took part in an investigative journalism workshop. Although the program was mostly comprised of lectures by experienced and renowned investigative journalists with little hands on, I have learned a few tips and things that I could share with you.
That was also when I learned about the Investigative Reporters and Editors , an association for investigative journalists and students with a ton of interesting worthwhile resources. They have conferences, workshops, training programs, archives, tip sheets and a lot more. Take a look and then tell me what you think.
Take care!
